A Glass of Wine With Angelica Malin

Angelica Malin is the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of About Time Magazine and founder of #SheStartedItLIVE, a festival of female empowerment. We spoke to Angelica about starting a 6 figure business straight out of University and all things women in business.

How it all started
After graduating from Bristol University and trying to hunt for jobs, Angelica decided to take the leap and launch her own magazine – About Time Magazine. A digital platform she launched over 4 years ago that focuses on lifestyle content and essentially is a curated guide to all things happening in London. Angelica explains that “One of the biggest challenges I faced when launching my own business, was the ability to find ways & create a revenue structure within the magazine, that’s how the idea of hosting community events & launching the #SheStartedIt podcast came about.”

About the community
“When we launched the digital platform our website was not female oriented at all, but 4 years later we have found that our main reader is 25-40 females based in London.” Angelica highlights that “A vast majority of business focus on their ideal target audience, but in reality it might turn out that a completely different group of people are more interested in your brand. My biggest advice is to not get too attached to your ideal target audience, but instead to stay flexible and explore different aspects of your community.”

Tips for entrepreneurs
“My advice would be to get industry experience & try to work in a start-up to get a feel if you’d like it, as the work hours and the environment is different rather than working in a corporate job.”
